A larger field entered the Championships this year, a factor for this was moving the competition to the end of the season from mid-summer, this meant we had a lot more entries particularly in Division 1. Last year there were only seven entries in this category but this year twenty-two entered, so this made for a much better competition. A slightly lower entry from Division 2 of fourteen from nineteen still made for a solid competition. The weather was good and the Dunston members were very welcoming and supported us by providing a starter, thank you Club Captain and Hilary who ran the raffle for me. Congratulations to the winners who were as follows, in Division 1 Scratch and defending her title, winning the Championship Cup with a fine score of 81 was Sue Clarke from Kings Lynn, runner up winning the Joy Boult Salver, was Anne Sibley from Wensum Valley with 87. Best Nett, winning the Pallister Cup for Division 1 was also Sue Clarke from Kings Lynn with a score of 73, so a double winner. The Over 65 Gwen Watts Salver was won by Anne Sibley with a score of 76ocb. In Division 2 winning the stableford competition and the Curtis Cup, was Pip Martin from Dunston Hall with a score of 35, runner up, winning the Committee Salver, was Avril Carey from Eaton with 33 points and third was Julie Procter from Kings Lynn. The Over 65 Bessie Turnbull Salver was won by Pip Martin making her a double winner also. Well done everyone who took part and enjoyed the day.

104 ladies from 16 clubs played the lovely Kings Lynn course on a challenging day with rain showers and whirling wind conditions which made it a good test of golf. The day clashed with the Ladies County Foursomes but it was still oversubscribed and late entries were turned away as we could only accommodate 26 teams with a two tee start. The club made us very welcome and the membership provided help with the raIle and starters. Huge thanks go to the Kings Lynn Lady Captain, Elaine Calvert who was incredibly supportive and their Secretary Iain who dealt with all the cards and put them through their system to sort out handicaps and winners. There were loads of compliments about the course and everyone appeared to enjoy the day. Congratulations go to Sue Clarke, Rosie Russell, Jane Reavell and Soon Letchford who came in first and won the Judith MacKinnon Salver. The Society is very grateful to everyone who generously bought rafle tickets which raised £420 for the Norfolk & Norwich Jenny Lind Appeal. Sue Saunders The Results:

Match Captain Sue Saunders reported that the second match of the season was played at home against Lincolnshire at Thetford in extremely wet conditions. The fairways were in a very poor condition after the recent prolonged hot spell, and it was agreed that players could prefer lies. Both teams struggled with the rain and the fairways but there were some excellent performances and some very close matches. This match always has a larger squad of 12 players which gives more people a chance of being selected and a warm welcome was given to two new team players – Phon Green from Bawburgh and Anne Ellis from Hunstanton. Big thanks to Thetford Golf Club who provided excellent hospitality and a very tasty evening meal. More importantly huge thanks go from the Captain to the team members who are always such good sports and great fun. Fantastic result Norfolk won 4 matches to 2

Match vs Cambs & Hunts held at Ely Golf Club on 13th September 2023

Match Captain Chrissie Owens reported that the final match of the season was played at Ely Golf Club later than planned, having been postponed earlier in the year due to bad weather.

With the match taking place in September, it was difficult to field a team due to holidays and other golfing so only six players (3 pairs) made the trip to Ely.  Anne Ellis from Sheringham kindly stepped in at the last minute for the team and to play her first Vets match.

Undoubtedly Ely City's mature parkland course was a real pleasure to play but both accuracy and solid ball striking were the key to scoring well!

This was always going to be a tough match against Cambs & Hunts as some of their players are also county senior players.  However, all games were played in good spirit and the ladies very hospitable offering a delicious meal of pan-fried chicken with dauphinoise potatoes, carrot puree and crispy stuffing.

As this was the last match, Chrissie would like to thank everyone who has played over the past couple of years and hands over the role to Sue Saunders of Thetford Golf Club.
