Our second match of the season was played at Rookery Park Golf Club against Suffolk Seniors. Despite the amber warning for heat, there was a welcome cool breeze at Rookery Park. The course was presented in good condition with lots of grass on the fairways but the bounces were interesting and the greens tricky. The matches were close but Suffolk were too strong for us on the day and we lost the match 4/0. We thanked Suffolk for their hospitality and the light salad after the match. Badges were presented to Sarah Watts and Kym Lofthouse. Anne Sibley Match Captain

This was our first match of 2026 and my first as match captain. After the recent spell of hot weather, the fairways had inevitably suffered from lack of rain so we were grateful to be on preferred lies. Matches are played off scratch and we played three matches of 4bbb and one match where Cambs & Hunt’s match captain played a betterball against one of our pairs, as unfortunately they could only field 7 players on the day. The catering staff were congratulated for a superb summer buffet and thanks sent to the Administration staff for ensuring that everything ran smoothly. We won the match 2.5 to 1.5 - a great start to our 2026 season and huge thanks go to all the players who all appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day. Anne Sibley Match Captain

Tuesday 19th May saw the Norfolk Ladies Vets welcomed by Mattishall Golf Club for the High Handicap Waltz event. It was disappointing that there were only six teams entered but those that did had a good time. The weather held, no rain and the sun did make an appearance. Mattishall staff were very accommodating and helped in every way. Particular thanks to Jane Ladies Captain and her Vice you were fantastic. Teams did comment that the course played tough especially with the Par 6 hole! Runners up with 69 points were Gerri Williams, Sheila Glenn, Val Miller and Penny Mead from Bawburgh and just pipping them with 70 points were Hazel O’Neill, Denise Wilson, Sandy Byrne and Liz Allport from Sprowston. Everyone enjoyed and was very ready for the Jacket Potato with various fillings with salad. Well done Ladies. Jill Bullimore - Competition Secretary

Competitions Secretary, Jill Bullimore, reported that it was unfortunate there was a small field but those taking part enjoyed the day and finally the sun shone.
